Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information First Words ("we", "our", "the app") collects when you and your family use firstwords.in, and how that information is used.
Who this app is for
First Words is designed for young children to use together with a parent or guardian. A parent account is required to create child profiles — children do not sign up on their own.
Information we collect
- Parent account information: the email address and password you use to create and log in to a family account. Passwords are stored in encrypted (hashed) form, never in plain text.
- Child profile information: a first name or nickname, an avatar, an age group, and a colour theme — used only to personalise that child's experience within your family account. We do not ask for a date of birth, address, or any other identifying detail about a child.
- Learning activity data: which words, games, and activities a child interacts with, session length, and quiz results. This is used to power the Parent Dashboard so you can see your child's progress, and is tied to your family account, not shared publicly.
- Basic usage analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand overall site traffic (such as pages visited and general location by country) so we can improve the app. This is aggregated site-usage data, not linked to a specific child's identity.
What we don't do
- We do not sell or rent your family's or your child's information to third parties.
- We do not show behavioural or interest-based advertising to children.
- We do not require a child to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to use the app.
How we use information
We use the information above to operate the app, let you log in and manage your family's profiles, show learning progress on the Parent Dashboard, keep the service secure, and understand how the app is used so we can improve it.
Data sharing
We share data only with service providers who help us run the app — such as our database and hosting providers, and Google Analytics for aggregate usage statistics — and only to the extent needed for them to provide that service to us.
Data retention and deletion
We keep family account and child profile data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your family account and all associated child profiles and activity data at any time by contacting us at the address below.
Children's privacy
We take children's privacy seriously. Child profiles can only be created by a parent or guardian through a verified parent account, and the information collected for a child profile is limited to what's needed to personalise learning activities, as described above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
